FAVERSHAM

A totally unique shopping & leisure experience, rich in history!

Standard Quay is one of Faversham’s hidden gems! Sitting alongside the Creek at the end of Abbey Street and in easy walking distance of the town centre, Standard Quay gives the visitor a truly unique experience. Offering Creekside walking, shopping, eating and a chance to see Faversham’s living history.

It is home to several classic ships and boats including barges such as the Cambria and Greta as well as traditional fishing boats, classic tugs and overnight moorings of all sorts! One of Standard Quay’s classic ‘barn’ buildings, that dates back to the seventeen hundreds, is the temporary home of the Cambria Thames Barge Exhibition.

The Historic Monks Granary

Monks Granary was originally constructed to serve as a large warehouse and used timbers salvaged  from the refectory of Faversham Abbey which was built by King Stephen and his wife Queen Mathilda in 1148, it was also their burial place.

The Abbey was torn down as part of King Henry VIII’s plans to sweep the monastries from England and today Monks Granary is one of the oldest surviving warehouses in Britain.

Standard Quay houses many independent outlets selling antiques and reconditioned furniture some with nautical and ‘retro’ themes. Quayside Clocks  offers sales and repairs of rare timepieces whilst Old English Tools attracts visitors who come to admire and buy classic and rare wood and metalwork tools from yesteryear! Benedict’s is the best stocked second hand vinyl and reconditioned Hi Fi store in the area.

Meadowlarks, Riggers, The Furniture Barn, Antikki and Archemilia’s Nest sell a great selection of collectables and furniture for the home and garden.  You could event drop in to the bin Ella wine bar for a quick glass or two.  One of Standard Quay’s surprises is the incredible Aladdin’s Loft, an indoor antiques and collectables market with over 20 traders.  As if this wasn’t enough, there is also The Inner Goddess & Eat to Live offering hair, beauty and Holistic treatments. This, all without leaving the Quay.

To make your visit more convenient, there is plenty of free on-site customer parking and you can even have your car hand-washed and your tyres checked whilst you browse the stores or visit the Tea Room & Coffee Shop!

Just above the Tea Room is Aladdin’s Loft indoor Market – the name speaks for itself!

Aladdin’s Loft is definitely worth a browse as it has 22 different retailers selling antiques and collectables and is perfect if you are looking for something unusual or ‘not on the high street’.
